There are 6 billion people in the world. Each person probably has just about a thousand different opinions. That is a LOT of opinions. Six billion people times one thousand opinions each? Let’s do some quick math. Six billion times a thousand is six trillion. That is around about how many opinions there are in the world. That IS a LOT. And some of those are right but some are wrong. One mundane question concerning this same right and wrong, but to which the answer should be incredibly clear to every single one of those six billion people, is ! It’s as simple as that. There is absolutely no excuse for killing a living thing. Not to feed oneself when there are so many other option, let alone just to satisfy a vegetarianism. Eating meat is wrongcraving! Killing a living being is immoral. God did not create animals just for the purpose of human satisfaction! If he had, he would have created them toes up, and already processed, just like frozen pizza, ready to heat up and be consumed.

There are many good reasons to become a vegetarian. Most people think that the only reasons to become vegetarian are animal rights or because you just don't like meat. There is a lot more depth to it than that. Of course, there are the environmental reasons, but there are also cultural reasons, health reasons, and moral reasons, which are just as important, and religious reasons, of course!

Let's start with the health reasons. People say we all think about our health, but do we? If you look at an average person's lifestyle, we spend most of our time either in the car or eating meat (although not necessarily red meat, white meat too). Just spending time in a car is unhealthy, so can you imagine what all that meat is doing to our bodies as well? Scientists have proven that driving everywhere instead of walking is bad for our hearts and that the consumption of red meat on top of that is one of the worst things we can possibly do to our poor, overworked hearts. Furthurmore, scientists have proven that a meatless diet has less cholesterol and less fat. These two factors reduce the risk of stroke and coronoary heart disease.

Concerning all the cultural and religious reasons, "meat-eaters" are just oblivious. They just don't understand that NOT eating meat is not NECESSARILY because of a distaste for meat, or because of animal rights. In fact, some people belong to religions that respect animals, worship them even, and refuse to then EAT the worshiped beings. Is that so horrible? I think not.

Did you know that there are a variety of vegetarians? I bet not! As soon as someone says or hears the word 'vegetarian', people tend to think "Oh, either plain vegetarian or vegan." What these people don't know, is that there are many subtle layers to this 'vegetarianism thing' and these layers go unnoticed and unappreciated by society on the whole. Besides vegetarians, of course. It just so happens that many people are vegetarians because it sounds cool. They have absolutely no idea about the concepts and subtlties. They are not any better than the meat-eaters. Back to the point, there are numerous types of vegetarians, all depending on your reasons and beliefs. First of all, there are pesco-ovo-lacto vegetarians. These are people who eat fish, eggs and dairy. Then there are ovo-lacto vegetarians, people who only eat eggs and dairy. Vegans are what most meat-eaters consider to be the strange types, simply because they don't eat any animal products at all. Last but not least, there are the Raw vegetable vegetarians who only eat uncooked, organic fruit and vegetables. So if you are thinking about becoming vegetarian, take your pick.

The environmental reasons behind vegetarianism are simple and logical, yet most people disregard them as flimsy excuses. A large numer of vegetarians are against the inhumane treatment of the animals used for meat. When you hear just how they are treated, you begin to see why. These animals are raised in horrific conditions. Chickens, for example, are kept in tiny cages and then brutally slaughtered when they have reached the perfect size and shape. "It is easier to grow crops on a patch of land than to raise a herd of cattle". This statement is undeniably true. Non-vegetarians often say that famine is not because there is not enough food, but because we cannot GET the food to the places that need it. The thing is, if the countries that suffer from famine could provide themselves with food, no one would have to get the food to them. The problem would be solved.

I think we can agree that vegetarianism is a healthy and moraly correct lifestyle. If there still is any doubt in your mind about why anyone would want to become vegetarian, or if you still think that it is a waste of time, there is nothing more I can do to convince you. But for those of you who have broadened your minds a little, who have discovered another way of living, or who have decided that vegetarianism is the right thing, you have gained all my respect, and the respect of vegetarians around the world. Well done. It's the right thing to do.
